X120Mn12 / 1.3401

Manganese steel / austenitic manganese steel
X120Mn12 / 1.3401
Heat-treated

This austenitic, heat-treated manganese steel with high manganese content achieves its wear resistance when exposed to impact and pressure during use. From an initial hardness of just approx. 200 HB (Brinell hardness), the material hardens to approx. 500 HB when under load, as the surface cold-hardens while the core remains soft. This means that the material is easy to process using traditional cutting methods such as plasma or laser cutting, as is usual for austenitic materials.

At thicknesses of up to 10 mm, the material can also be sheared using powerful machinery. It can also be drilled using special drill bits made from cobalt-alloyed high-speed steels with a strengthened core. In spite of the high carbon content, this manganese steel is suitable for welding and does not require preheating.

Application areas X120Mn12 / 1.3401:
Shot-blasting machine construction, security technology (doors, panels), safe construction, wear-resistant components for chipping machines, crusher jaws, bulk material conveyor systems, preparation and process technology, centrifuges, magnet construction
